Film questions
Total thickness does not describe layer structure, stiffness, coefficient of friction, heat-seal layer, curl, surface treatment or how the reel was wound. Those properties influence forming, pulling, static, registration and the seal window. Film should be identified by its complete approved specification and trialled on the intended forming and sealing process.
Provide the film structure, total width, print repeat, unwind direction, registration-mark size and position, intended bag drawing, seal areas, code area and any artwork clearance from the cut or seal. An artwork file shows graphics, but it does not prove that the physical reel will track, register and seal on the selected machine.
Telescoping, uneven edges, variable tension, wrinkles, gauge bands and poor splices can change how the web enters the rollers and forming shoulder. The sensor may read every mark correctly while the cut still moves because the film path is unstable. Record reel condition and fault position before changing electronic registration settings.
Repeat testing whenever the supplier, structure, sealant layer, thickness, print or manufacturing route changes enough to affect forming or heat sealing. Confirm the new film against the approved temperature, pressure, dwell and cooling window using the actual product. A matching commercial description is not proof that the machine settings remain valid.
